Ringier One Africa Media’s Email Marketing Transformation

Project Introduction:

Ringier One Africa Media, a leading media and entertainment company in Africa, recently underwent a significant transformation in its email marketing strategy. I single-handedly migrated the company’s entire portfolio of companies into SailThru email marketing platform and personalization engine for customer relationship management between May 2016 and August 2018. This migration resulted in email becoming the number one marketing channel for most of Ringier One Africa Media’s brands like BrighterMonday and Jobberman.

Migrating to SailThru: What is SailThru?

Sailthru is an email marketing and personalization platform that helps businesses to deliver personalized and relevant communications to their customers across all channels. It provides businesses with a range of tools to segment and target their customer base, automate email campaigns, and optimize the performance of their email marketing efforts.

Sailthru is often compared to other popular marketing automation platforms like Marketo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. It is considered a more specialized platform, geared specifically towards email marketing and personalization. It is often used by e-commerce and media companies that prioritize email as a primary communication channel.

In terms of features and capabilities, Sailthru has a strong focus on personalization, providing businesses with the ability to deliver highly targeted and personalized communications to their customers. It also has a comprehensive set of automation tools and reporting capabilities. Marketo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, on the other hand, are more comprehensive platforms that offer a broader range of marketing automation features, including lead generation, lead scoring, and marketing automation workflows.

In terms of popularity and market share, Salesforce Marketing Cloud is considered to be the most widely used platform, followed by Marketo, and then Sailthru. However, Sailthru is still considered to be a strong player in the email marketing and personalization space and is well-regarded for its robust personalization capabilities and ease of use.

The Challenge:

Migrating a portfolio of companies to a new email marketing platform is a significant undertaking and requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail. I was tasked with migrating Ringier One Africa Media’s portfolio of companies into SailThru, which included transferring all subscriber data, setting up new email templates, and configuring the personalization engine for customer relationship management.

Successful Migration Led by Yours Truly:

Despite the complexity of the migration, I was able to complete the migration single-handedly and with minimal disruption to the company’s ongoing operations. I was able to transfer all subscriber data, set up new email templates, and configure the personalization engine, which helped to improve the effectiveness of the company’s email marketing campaigns.

Email as the Number 1 Marketing Channel:

The migration to SailThru helped to make email the number one marketing channel for most of Ringier One Africa Media’s brands like BrighterMonday and Jobberman. This was due to the improved personalization and automation capabilities of the SailThru platform, which allowed the company to send targeted and relevant emails to its subscribers.

I was able to complete the migration single-handedly and with minimal disruption to the company’s ongoing operations. The migration helped to improve the effectiveness of the company’s email marketing campaigns and make email the number one marketing channel for most of Ringier One Africa Media’s brands like BrighterMonday and Jobberman. This is a great achievement for the company, and it highlights the importance of an effective email marketing strategy in today’s digital landscape.
